Fostering scientific excellence through our internship program
At Synexa Life Sciences, we’re driven by our vision to become the preferred partner of choice for biomarker and bioanalytical services. Our growth over the past two decades has been propelled by our highly skilled staff and our commitment to scientific leadership and innovation.
In 2023, the Kimberg Internship program was set up to help young graduates develop their practical skills and kickstart their careers in science, benefiting from the knowledge and expertise of our team of scientists across the organisation.
About the Kimberg Internship Program:
The Kimberg Internship Program has been designed to give science graduates the key skills needed to take the next steps forward in their science careers, whether in academia or industry.
Having just completed your degree, the internship will complement the theoretical knowledge you will have gained at university with a practical, hands-on experience.
During the three month program based Cape Town, interns will undergo training on a rotational basis across various units, ensuring a well-rounded experience in multiple techniques and assays:
Key skills learned:
Lab Equipment
Learn how to properly use various laboratory instruments such as pipettes, balances, centrifuges, fridges/freezers, biosafety cabinets, incubators and more.
Basic sample processing
Learn how to process samples including serum, plasma and PBMC processing.
Flow Cytometry
Learn the principles of flow cytometry, including instrument set up, staining procedures as well as sample acquisition and data analysis.
Soluble Biomarkers
Learn how to set up assays, as well as use various high-tech instruments to analyse biomarkers.
Important Details:

Nurturing the Next Generation of Scientists
The Kimberg Internship Program was established in memory of our late Chief Scientific Officer, Matti Kimberg, who was instrumental in shaping Synexa's ethos and identity. Matti had a passion for developing and mentoring young scientists, and this program aims to do exactly that in continuing his legacy. Led by Professor Patrick Bouic, Synexa co-founder and renowned immunologist at Stellenbosch University, the program will offer a three-month internship starting at our Cape Town lab facility.
