FAQ
What is Olink and what are its advantages?
Olink is a high-throughput protein biomarker platform that uses Proximity Extension Assay (PEA) technology to measure multiple proteins simultaneously with high specificity and sensitivity. It’s ideal for studies where sample volume is limited or when you need broad proteomic coverage for discovery or targeted validation.
What Olink panels does Synexa offer?
- Target 96: Target 96 enables multiplex analysis of up to 92 proteins plus 4 internal controls in a single panel. It provides relative quantification using NPX values, with proteins grouped by biological themes such as Inflammation, Neurology, and Oncology. This powerful solution requires only 1 μL of sample, making it ideal for studies where sample volume is limited.
- Target 48: Target 48 measures 45 proteins plus 3 controls per panel and offers absolute quantification in standard units (pg/mL or ng/mL). This allows for direct comparison across studies or against clinical cut-offs. Like Target 96, it requires just 1 μL of sample, ensuring efficiency without compromising accuracy.
- Olink Flex: Flex is a customisable panel that lets you select up to 30 proteins from Olink’s extensive library. It’s the perfect choice when you have a predefined biomarker list but still want the high sensitivity and specificity Olink is known for. Only 1 μL of sample is needed for this tailored approach.
- Reveal: Allows analysis of ~1,000 proteins in a single run, offering broad proteome coverage with an emphasis on inflammation-related pathways. It’s best suited for discovery-based projects where you want to identify new biomarker signatures or explore disease biology in depth. Requires 4 μL of sample.
What sample types can Synexa work with?
Synexa works with a wide range of clinical sample matrices to support biomarker and bioanalytical studies. Standard matrices include plasma, serum, and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), while more challenging matrices such as tissue lysates, bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) fluid, sputum, urine, and cell culture supernatants are also routinely handled. To ensure sample integrity and reliable data, our team provides expert guidance on optimal sample collection, processing, and storage.
Can Synexa combine Olink with other platforms?
Yes. We routinely integrate Olink with:
- Flow cytometry for immune phenotyping
- Ligand-binding assays (MSD, ELISA) for orthogonal validation or pharmacokinetic assessments
- Nanostring or other transcriptomic platforms for multi-omic analysis
- Clinical metadata
Can Synexa help with study design, biomarker selection and data analysis?
Yes – Synexa’s scientific consulting team works with you from the outset to make sure Olink is not just a standalone assay, but part of a coherent biomarker plan. We help you to:
- Select the most relevant panels for your indication, clinical phase, and available sample types.
- Design study randomisation, QC, and statistical analysis plans that fit your objectives and regulatory needs.
- Customised bioinformatics support, including differential expression, pathway enrichment and clustering.
- Integrate Olink proteomic data with other modalities such as flow cytometry, genomics, or ligand-binding assays (MSD, ELISA) and clinical metadata to create a multi-omic dataset.
- Use this integrated dataset to uncover more meaningful biological insights, identify predictive signatures, and generate evidence that is both biologically and clinically relevant.
Our goal is to make sure your proteomic data is maximised- delivering context, biological interpretation, and actionable insights rather than isolated protein lists.
